Sunny and Warming: Great Stairway Walking This Weekend!
Friday, March 22
Jake Jaramillo

There's a warming trend coming our way through the weekend and into early next week. It'll be a great time to get out and explore Seattle stairs!

Today, Friday, we did a backpack training hike that crossed paths with parts of the "Alki From Above" stairway walk (see Chapter 18 in the book for details, or check out the main website entry here for more pictures). We followed the route through Schmitz Preserve Park, where we saw something new, and also greeted a favorite Springtime friend:

We learned about this tree monster from Feet First Walking Ambassador Tim Lowry, and were happy to find it just a few feet up a side trail

There are whole fields of Skunk Cabbage as you approach the SW Hinds Street exit of Schmitz Park- you can smell the "skunk!"

Skunk Cabbage come up quickly in early Spring; they love mushy wetland patches like this one, in Schmitz Preserve Park
