Preserving Our Stairway Legacy

By 2016, funds from the Bridging the Gap Levy, passed in 2006, will no longer be available to rehabilitate the city's stairways (among many other transit and pedestrian projects). Bridging the Gap funds account for about half the city's annual stairway maintenance and rehab budget, which stands just shy of a million dollars. What will happen when these funds go away? We'd hate to see our priceless stairways deteriorate, like this one in Kansas City!
